Discover Mount Kenya

Mount Kenya is Africa’s second-highest mountain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its dramatic peaks, forest, giant high-altitude plants, glacial valleys and alpine lakes.

Point Lenana — 4,985 m

The main trekking summit for many hikers. A rewarding high-altitude goal that still requires careful pacing, suitable preparation and acclimatisation.

Batian — 5,199 m

Mount Kenya’s highest summit. Batian is a technical climbing objective for experienced climbers with appropriate skills, equipment and specialist guiding.

Nelion — 5,188 m

A technical summit requiring rock-climbing experience, specialist equipment and a properly planned expedition.

Choose the route that fits your adventure

Every route has a different pace, landscape and level of challenge. We can help you discuss the best fit for your time, fitness, experience and summit goal.

Sirimon Route

A popular approach from the northwest, known for a relatively gradual ascent and scenic highland terrain. A strong option to discuss for a first trekking summit.

Chogoria Route

Famous for spectacular scenery, including broad valleys, cliffs and mountain lakes. Often used as a scenic descent or combined route.

Naro Moru Route

A direct and popular approach from the west. Some sections can be steep, wet or boggy, so route choice and pacing matter.

Route duration and conditions vary. Final itineraries should account for weather, group fitness, park requirements and acclimatisation.

Prepare well for high altitude

Acclimatise gradually

Choose an itinerary with enough time to gain altitude steadily. Tell your guide if you feel unwell; headache, nausea, dizziness or unusual fatigue can be signs of altitude illness.

Pack for changing weather

Bring broken-in hiking boots, layered warm clothing, waterproof shell, hat and gloves, sun protection, headlamp, personal medication, reusable water containers and a small first-aid kit.

Respect the mountain

Follow your guide and park rules, stay on authorised trails, take litter back out and keep a respectful distance from wildlife. Conditions can change quickly at altitude.

Safety note: Mount Kenya is a high-altitude environment. No summit can be guaranteed; the guide may recommend slowing down, turning back or descending if conditions or a hiker’s health make it necessary.
